Treatment

General

Effercitrate Tablets are a treatment for the symptoms of Cystitis and as an initial therapy in mild symptomatic Cystitis prior to an MSU (Midstream Specimen of Urine) result.

Effercitrate comes in the form of an effervescent tablet.  When fully dissolved in water, the solution contains Potassium citrate and Citric acid. Potassium citrate makes the urine more alkaline, which helps soothe the bladder and urethra lining, helping to relieve the discomfort caused by the infection.

Dosage and Administration

  • Adults and Children over 6 years: Two tablets to be dissolved in a glass of water up to three times daily. To be taken with meals or shortly afterwards.
  • Children under 6 years: Not recommended.
  • Elderly: As adult dose.

Precautions for Use

Do not take Effercitrate if you have kidney problems, high blood pressure or heart disease. Speak to your doctor first.

Pregnancy and Lactation

You should consult your doctor before taking Effercitrate if you are pregnant, think you may be pregnant, or are breast-feeding.

Side Effects

Some people experience an upset stomach after taking and this may be minimised by taking with or after food.

Storage

Replace the cap securely to protect the tablets from moisture and store in a cool dry place below 20°C.
